The Amicalola EMC scholarship finalists (seniors) received letters earlier this spring, inviting them to the youth awards banquet (originally scheduled for March 26). Due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) and related health concerns, the banquet was canceled. We hope to reschedule the banquet later in the school year. In the event we cannot reschedule, all finalists will be mailed a letter later this summer on how to claim the scholarship. These scholarships will be mailed directly to colleges but cannot be processed until after September 1. In addition, eight juniors were selected as Washington Youth Tour finalists. You will be notified in the coming weeks of your status and related scholarship awards. For questions, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org or call 706-253-5287.

(Jasper, GA – March 16, 2020) Amicalola EMC continues to monitor the threat of the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19). We remain focused on the health, safety and well-being of our members, our employees and the communities we serve.
Amicalola EMC has taken steps to lessen the impact by limiting public access to the office lobby in all locations effective today, March 16 for a period of up to two weeks. We have also limited access to other areas of our facilities, but are allowing deliveries of supplies and materials that are required to perform normal business operations.
During this two week period, all disconnections of service due to nonpayment have been suspended. In addition, no late fees will be added to accounts. “At Amicalola EMC, we realize how much our members depend upon electricity and the vital role that electricity plays. We also realize the financial burden and stress that preparing for a situation like this can cause. We believe we are doing our part to help ease that burden by taking these steps”, says Todd Payne, President & CEO.
“We urge our members to take advantage of the digital resources we offer like online bill pay. More information may be found on our website and our Facebook page. We are focused on the needs of our members and, as always, we stand ready to address any power interruptions that may occur” adds Payne. Employees of the electric cooperative have been urged to take steps to stay healthy by following CDC protocol on hand hygiene and other directives. Members may obtain information on ways to stay healthy by visiting www.cdc.gov.

As you know, the Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) has confirmed the first death from the coronavirus (COVID-19) in Georgia.
For the safety and well-being of our area students and their families, our staff, board of directors and the general public we have made the decision to postpone the 2020 youth awards banquet that was originally scheduled to be held next Thursday, March 19. Our plan is to reschedule the event at some point in the near future, once the health threat has passed.
Thank you for your patience and understanding during this time. For more information on ways to keep you and your family healthy, please visit www.cdc.gov.
Early voting in Georgia began this week on March 2. There are four more important dates related to voting in Georgia.
• March 24 – Georgia Presidential Primary
• May 19 – General primary election for local, state and federal offices
• October 5 – Deadline to register to vote in the upcoming general election
• November 3 – 2020 General Election
Why is voting important? If you miss the chance to vote, you lose the opportunity to communicate your concern to our leaders about the issues that matter to you, where you work, live, and raise your family. Amicalola EMC will once again be part of NRECA’s Co-Ops Vote initiative. This non-partisan program is designed to unite the 42 million co-op members across the nation to ensure that electric co-ops are a powerful voice on national issues that have a local impact. Mark your calendars and make sure your voice is heard.
