Overnight storms leave widespread power outages

Severe weather swept through Georgia overnight, leaving downed trees and downed power lines. Crews are working to restore electricity as quickly and safely as possible. Currently, 7770 members in our service area are without power. We have widespread outages in nine of the ten counties we serve: Gilmer County has 4987, Lumpkin 792, Cherokee 649, Bartow 509, Pickens 433,  followed by Fannin, Dawson and Gordon. Outages may be reported to 706-253-0359 OR 706-276-0359 OR 706-864-0359.

Amicalola EMC cautions members to be mindful of the following safety measures to ensure the safety of the public and EMC personnel:

• Do not approach line crews given the current COVID-19 pandemic.
• Motorists approaching utility linemen at an active work site are required to change lanes or reduce their speed to a proper speed below the posted speed limit. Motorists who do not change lanes or drop their speed to avoid utility workers can be fined up to $250 per incident.
• Do not try and remove trees or limbs that have fallen onto power lines.
• Continue to use caution and stay away from downed power lines and always assume they are still energized.
