High winds cause power outages across the AEMC service area

As predicted, a beautiful snow fall which included high winds blew through our service area during the night. Currently, we have wide spread power outages as a result of trees falling on power lines. We are also encountering trees across road ways, which must be cleared before the damage can be assessed and repaired. Right now, we have a total of 9835 members without power in Gilmer, Pickens, north Cherokee, Dawson and Lumpkin counties. Caution! Never do near a downed power line – always assume they are still energized. Report the downed line to 911 first, then call your local outage reporting number, which is one of the following: 706-253-0359 OR 706-276-0359 OR 706-864-0359. All power will be restored as soon as is safely possible and we appreciate your patience as our crews continue to work safely toward restoring all power.
