High winds cause multiple outages across Amicalola EMC service area

High winds and rain blew across the Amicalola EMC service area all throughout the night, and winds continue today. Down from a peak of aprox. 3,200 members without power, we currently have 1,447 members out, in 33 separate areas. Members in areas of Cherokee, Dawson, Gilmer, Lumpkin and Pickens counties are currently out, with the majority in Pickens County.  Our crews have worked all night and continue to work now to restore all power.  There are cases where power has been restored, only to have the winds and tree limbs cause additional outages in the same area. Our broken pole count is currently at five, but may rise as restoration work continues. We ask for your patience as we work to restore all power as soon as is safely possible. If you are currently out of power, and have not already reported it, you may call one of these numbers:  706-253-0359, 706-276-0359 OR 706-864-0359.  MOST IMPORTANTLY: Stay away from downed power lines.  Always assume a downed power line is energized! Call 911 first to report to local authorities, then call one of the above outage numbers. Do not go near the downed line – Stay clear to stay safe!
