47 students receive college scholarships

3 Washington Youth Tour delegates announced

O what a night! For decades, Amicalola EMC has paid tribute to local high school students at the annual youth awards banquet each spring. Our board of directors is strongly committed to supporting our youth and it has never been more evident that at this year’s banquet as 47 high school students from across our service area stepped forward to claim just under $50,000 in college scholarship dollars, funded through unclaimed capital credit refunds.

High school juniors and seniors from Cherokee, Dawson, Gilmer, Lumpkin and Pickens counties were honored as their parents, school administrators, Amicalola EMC staff members and the Amicalola EMC board of directors looked on.

Three all expense paid trips to Washington, D.C. were also awarded. In June, Amicalola EMC winners will join the Georgia delegation of approx. 100 students. Once in Washington, they will join with other states for the 2011 National Washington Youth Tour, a week-long leadership experience.

Amicalola EMC continues to be an avid supporter of our youth, our schools and our communities. We’re extremely proud of the accomplishments of these high school students and wish them every success as they continue their education.
