posted October 9, 2007

As you know, Amicalola EMC has experienced a great amount of growth in the northern Dawson County area in the last few years.  In order to provide adequate service to all existing and new members in this area, it has become necessary for us to raise our distribution voltage on the circuit feeding that area.  We have already done a tremendous amount of work involving reinsulation of the lines as well as changing all transformers to a dual-voltage type.  This work has been ongoing and it is now time for us to complete the project. There are two areas that will be affected.

The first area to be affected is: Crane Road, Hwy. 136, New Hope Road, Bailey Waters Road, Max Wehunt Road, Hwy. 52, Wesley Chapel Road, Dan Fowler Road, Forrest Hills and the roads and areas surrounding these.

In order for us to complete this, the power in your area will have to be turned off for an extended period of time.  This work is scheduled to be done on Tuesday, November 13, 2007 beginning at approximately 8:00 AM in the morning.  The area should be without power for approximately four hours.  We hope to have all power restored by 12:00 Noon that day.  During this time, our linemen will be going to every transformer in the area to make changes to those units to provide for the higher distribution voltage.  With the large number of transformers, it will take several hours to complete this.

The second area to be affected is: Afton Road, Elliot Family Parkway, Talton Drive, Antioch Church Road, Johntown Road, Highway 52, Signboard Gap, Amicalola Woods, the Amicalola Falls State Park, and surrounding areas.

This work is scheduled to be done on Tuesday, November 13, 2007 beginning at approximately 1:00 PM in the afternoon.  The area should be without power for approximately four hours.  We hope to have all power restored by 5:00 PM that afternoon.  During this time, our linemen will be going to every transformer in the area to make changes to those units to provide for the higher distribution voltage.  With the large number of transformers, it will take several hours to complete this.

This change to the higher distribution voltage will allow Amicalola EMC to provide the proper voltage to each service in this area, especially during the summer and winter months when usage is at its highest, without having to build new distribution lines or change existing lines to larger wire.

If the weather happens to not cooperate with us on that day, the work will be rescheduled for Thursday, November 15, 2007. We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause.  Every effort will be made to make all changes as quickly as is safely possible.
