Amicalola EMC announces scholarships for high school students

Applications are now being accepted for the 2016 Amicalola EMC scholarship program and the 2016 Washington Youth Tour program.

Seniors who live in an Amicalola EMC household and plan to attend college may apply for scholarships.

Juniors who live in an Amicalola EMC household may apply for the 2016 Washington Youth Tour, an all-expenses paid trip to Washington, D.C. during June 2016. All winners and runners-up will also be awarded a college scholarship.

Funding for all scholarships is in accordance with Georgia’s unclaimed property laws. State law now allows funds (which previously had to be turned over to the state) to be used for three approved purposes: education, economic development and certain charities. All funds must be used within the Amicalola EMC service territory. It is important to note that state law will only allow these funds to be used for these approved purposes and will not allow the funds to be used to offset rates or pay power bills.

Applications may be downloaded at www.amicalolaemc.com. The deadline to enter both programs is January 29, 2016. For more information, please contact Stacey Fields at communications@amicalolaemc.com or 706-253-5287.
