As you know, Amicalola EMC has experienced a great amount of growth in the northern Dawson County area in the last few years.  In order to provide adequate service to all existing and new members in this area, it has become necessary for us to raise our distribution voltage on the circuit feeding that area.  We have already done a tremendous amount of work involving reinsulation of the lines as well as changing all transformers to a dual-voltage type.  This work has been ongoing and it is now time for us to complete the project. There are two areas that will be affected.

The first area to be affected is: Crane Road, Hwy. 136, New Hope Road, Bailey Waters Road, Max Wehunt Road, Hwy. 52, Wesley Chapel Road, Dan Fowler Road, Forrest Hills and the roads and areas surrounding these.

In order for us to complete this, the power in your area will have to be turned off for an extended period of time.  This work is scheduled to be done on Tuesday, November 13, 2007 beginning at approximately 8:00 AM in the morning.  The area should be without power for approximately four hours.  We hope to have all power restored by 12:00 Noon that day.  During this time, our linemen will be going to every transformer in the area to make changes to those units to provide for the higher distribution voltage.  With the large number of transformers, it will take several hours to complete this.

The second area to be affected is: Afton Road, Elliot Family Parkway, Talton Drive, Antioch Church Road, Johntown Road, Highway 52, Signboard Gap, Amicalola Woods, the Amicalola Falls State Park, and surrounding areas.

This work is scheduled to be done on Tuesday, November 13, 2007 beginning at approximately 1:00 PM in the afternoon.  The area should be without power for approximately four hours.  We hope to have all power restored by 5:00 PM that afternoon.  During this time, our linemen will be going to every transformer in the area to make changes to those units to provide for the higher distribution voltage.  With the large number of transformers, it will take several hours to complete this.

This change to the higher distribution voltage will allow Amicalola EMC to provide the proper voltage to each service in this area, especially during the summer and winter months when usage is at its highest, without having to build new distribution lines or change existing lines to larger wire.

If the weather happens to not cooperate with us on that day, the work will be rescheduled for Thursday, November 15, 2007. We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause.  Every effort will be made to make all changes as quickly as is safely possible.

Members of Amicalola EMC to Receive 1.2 Million Dollars

Another refund coming in September

1.2 million dollars will be returned to previous and current members of Amicalola EMC in September.  This year’s refund will bring the total amount of capital credit refunds to over 4.6 million dollars since 2005.

Amicalola Electric Membership Corporation is a cooperative. Being a cooperative means the members of the cooperative are the owners.  Capital credits are the monies over and above the operating costs of the business.  These monies are refunded to co-op members in the form of capital credits. A cooperative is a not-for profit corporation, and unlike investor owned utilities, there are no stock holders.

Amicalola EMC was formed in 1940, and many things have changed since then, but the same cooperative business model has been in place for almost seventy years.

Members of the cooperative who were served by Amicalola EMC during the year of 1986 should look for a credit on their September power bill.  Members who were served during this year but are no longer co-op members can find information on the website at www.amicalolaemc.com or by calling 706-253-5200.

Amicalola EMC is committed to keeping the lights on and the rates affordable.

New Substation to  Become Energized on Thursday, August 9, 2007

Amicalola EMC is pleased to announce that on Thursday, August 9, 2007, a new substation in the west end of Pickens County will become energized.  This new substation, known as the Talmadge Substation is located on Jerusalem Church Road.

In order to bring the substation on line, members of Amicalola EMC will experience brief power outages between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon.  These power outages are expected to be brief in duration, but will occur off and on between this time period.  Affected areas are Jerusalem Church Road, Ryo community, Salacoa Valley community and Henderson Mountain Road.

While there will be a short interruption of power on August 9th, the long term benefits will be tremendous.  This new substation will bring great reliability and shorter outage response time for the members in these areas.  In addition, this new substation will allow for future growth in these areas.  All power will be restored as soon as safely possible.  Amicalola EMC is requesting your patience as this substation becomes energized.

Policy on Meters Disconnected for Non-Payment

In an effort to reduce expenses and to alleviate safety concerns, effective April 1, 2005, Amicalola Electric Membership Corporation will implement a new policy regarding the reconnection of electric service to members who have been disconnected due to non payment.

If a member's meter has been disconnected for non-payment and the member has made arrangements to pay their bill prior to 5:00 p.m. AEMC will reconnect the member's meter the same day.  If non-payment arrangements have been made prior to 5:00 p.m., reconnection will be after 8:00 a.m. the following day.
